No Tabletop Gaming Happening

Yep, for the first time in a long time where I havne't had much table top aciton going on really.  No big games to plan for, no big projects I'm pressed to finish.  Hell, it feel like I  haven't even really played a 40k tournament in who knows how long.

Ard boyz is approaching but I might not be able to swing it with the family.  I've got some time this Sat and have reached out to folks for games of 40k or warmahordes.  I have put a few dabs of paint on my warcaster but progress is slow.

And this is (mostly) what is to blame:

It's a few months old now and I remember it was riddled with technical problems at launch.  I thought I would give it a chance a week ago and I've been pretty hooked.  It did take some work to get my system happy with the game, but I've easily sunk plenty of hours into so far.  I think I'm close to finishing, but I think this game has a massive replay value as two entire acts of the game sound like they unfold completely differently.

So things may be quite around these parts for a bit to come...

Painted Dire Troll Bomber

So a keen observer might have noted I did have my Dire Troll Bomber well underway in the painting process for last weekends games.  It was just a base coat, but this weekend I found the time to finish him.

I'm pretty happy with him.  I think the skin tones didn't get blended as nicley as they did on the Impaler but taken as a whole he looks fine.

The fire came out ok, I can't recall if I've ever tried to paint fire for a long long time.  I actually hopped around the net to see how people went at it and used some tips for my own home brew.  I was tempted to try to go for some glow effect but I don't think I've got quite the tallent and I don't really want to screw him up now that he is 'done.'

So with that I should probably jump to the warcaster next I suppose!

First Three Trollblood Games

So I got some games in last weekend with the Trollbloods at long last.  I had a great time, but Monday morning I was basically off to LA for the week so I hadn't been able to do any updates.

At this point I've pretty much forgotten all my games details, but I have some pictures I might as well put up for view.

First I played pats Khador.  This was a great fun game that basically seemed to come down to me trying to shoot him down before he could close in with me.

Things went pretty well for me and I was able to get a little assassination run in to kill his caster once I took the Jack out of the way he was hiding behind.

Next I played Eric's Everblight and as it worked out we ended up on the same table and same side for me so these pictures look awfully similar.

His whole army was more or less stealthed and had a longer range than I did.  This meant I was chasing him around the board trying to hit him with my blast templates while he plinked off my trolls.

As it turns out it was fairly close.  I think this picture is the end of my turn where I just missed badly to try to get his caster, but I was also running out of fury with no more beasts.

Eric's next turn one of his beasts went crazy, but the two shots he could take just took me to 0 on the spot.  Had I been able to keep gunny up I just might have been able to take him down, but maybe not.  It was still a great game.

I did get one more game but I have no pictures.  It was late, I was tired, and I really got spanked hard.  It was kind of one of those games we expected to get eventually.  "Oh I didn't know you could do that.  Oh I didn't know you had that.  Oh I see why that was an incredibly bad idea on my part."  So ya, there were certainly plenty of lessons learned but the game was very brief by the standards of the other two games.

So I'm looking forward to other games, and am busy plotting the next acquisitions and building bigger and alternative lists.

Dire Troll Bomber Underway

I hope evryone had a great holiday weekend.  I was quite busy between home improvement projects, BBQs, the fair, and family time.  So much so that very little of any hobby type activity took place.

I had a brief hour to start with some painting on the Dire Troll Bomber, and I just spent another hour or so getting some more paint on the model.

Basically all I've really managed is to get all the basecoat down with the exception of the skin.  Of course the skin takes up a majority of this model.  I think the skin basecoat will go on quick, and then I can work up the colors for that.  Then I'll bounce back to these other details with the washes and blending to finish him up over the next week.

The downside is I was really looking forward to getting some games this week but life seems to have other plans.  So that is quite the bummer, and I'm struggling to even find time to play a one off game.  I know this particular time of crazy busy work and balancing the new baby and toddler (and wife really) needs should be temporary.  Work will ebb and flow on the busy/slower side, and the kids will require a bit less of the constant hand holding from the wife and I.  Of course you can't help but wonder if this is just how life is going to be from now on regardless.

Hopefully over the next month or two some balance of family/work/personal time will rise to the surface but for now the later of those seems to be completely out the window.  I don't mind being busy with these things as they are all obviously important, but it is wearing when you find no time to sit down and unplug yourself.
